Significant Leadership Endorsement of End Widow Abuse (6)

Isaiah 1:17 - Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Today's focal point will be on legal reforms that can put an end to widow abuse in Nigeria. Several laws have been enacted at federal and state levels, but the challenge is the low rate of implementation. The 2015 Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) VAPP Act for example, includes various forms of harmful practices against widows. Only a few states have domesticated this legislation in the states. Advocacy to see this happen continues by various women's groups.

Two states Enugu and Anambra passed legislation in 2001 & 2005 respectively prohibiting dehumanising treatment towards widows. These laws however are not being enforced to protect widows.

In recent years, pressure had been applied in Benue, Bauchi and Niger States to implement VAPP reforms.

Lastly, there is a Bill currently in the Senate which includes putting an end to harmful traditional practices against widows.

Isaiah 1:17 urges us to plead for the widow.

Today please let us ask God our Jehovah Shammah to please intercede in all the plans for legal reforms and bring them to a workable conclusion in the Name of Jesus.

O Lord direct the heart of the officials to do the right thing with laws that have been made.

Father also direct the hearts of federal and state lawmakers to do the right thing with the Bills that are before them.

Let your Will be done O Lord on Earth as it is in Heaven on this matter in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Saviour.

Your Word is your Will O Lord. Through your power and strength, please show yourself Great on the matter of laws that can put an end to widow abuse in our country, Nigeria.

Sweet Jesus have your way in the lives in all widows and their children.

All obstacles to blocking rightful legislative interventions are dismantled in Jesus Mighty Name. Every form of opposition to ensure protection for widows is declared null and void in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Thank you Lord for we pray in Jesus Mighty Name.
